Some call it fund raising, others begging. I guess it depends on how worthy you consider the cause. Either way it's been around in one form or another for a long long time.
On the web, some set up sites pitching their story hoping to benefit from the supposed masses of anonymous generosity, others litter pages with wishlists. Progression onto the web has not reduced its' occurance back in the real world.

Personally I'm a bit ambivalent about this cause; I'm going to see how T-bone does on stage. Regardless of whether the night is a success or not, Alice must feel pretty good knowing that she's got friends who'll help her out when she needs it. As feelings go, that one's right up there.
