Wakka Chikka Wakka Chikka
One of the few upsides to being housebound with bronchitis is that -in between naps - you have time to catch up on all those stories that pile up inside your newsreader (Did anyone else just picture Sandra Sully inflating like Violet Beauregarde? I digress...). This morning I found a few gold nuggets whilst working through the backlog of Lifehacker pieces.
"Download free music at the Internet Archive" commanded Wendy Boswell.
"Don't have to tell me twice" said I. With near 500 sub-collections produced by so many NetLabels in the Internet Archive, where was I to start? "Gimme something funky, groovy" said I to the computer, but without a voice command system the cursor just blinked on unphased. So I skimmed the first page. Search, yeah. Browse by Subject/Keyword, that looks promising. Most Downloaded Items, bingo baby.
I didn't have to see the P word to know what sort of album Wakka Chikka Wakka Chikka was going to be. A little winged Barry White angel in a white suit sitting on my shoulder let out an "Oh yeah".
Most of the tracks on WCWC sound a lot like the funky chillout CDs that flow in the background of most bars & cafes these days, albeit that some of the vocal samples would have patrons doing double takes & asking their friends if they heard what they just think they heard, but for the most part those samples are subtle. That said, I wouldn't go playing this out loud in the office. The tracklist probably won't get past most workplace net filters either, so have a look & listen from home.*
You can listen to & download the tracks and cover & disc art at the IA WCWC site and there's more info on the track contributors at the Comfort Stand Recordings WCWC site.
* - Tracks 6 - H8s3x** - and 11 - Give Me A(&^ Pleasure Please - are definitely not safe for work.
** - Track 6 isn't really spelt like that, try saying it out loud. If Filthy Bob*** ever had a theme tune, this is it.
*** - Not to be confused with the newly-engaged nice guy Dirty Bob.
