Go easy on the monkeys mate
As regular Triple J listeners will know, Ross Noble is touring Australia until May. If you get the chance, get to a show. The show tonight had the crowd laughing to tears & weirded out at times, but then again, some of the crowd had Noble weirded out at times too.
While Chris Wainhouse's support set was pretty much scripted (anyone who saw last week's Stand-Up on the ABC would've been having deja vu like I was), Noble's show is reminiscent of comics like Robin Williams or Billy Connolly in that he seems to have 'landmarks' that he tries to get to & just improvises in between. If you like your stand-up strictly observational, you're likely to be disappointed - and ridiculed - like the "tell us a joke" heckler who asked Noble to be more like Carl Barron.
