Dean - First of all, Australian flag ties aren't a novelty. They are a national treasure which must be nurtured and promoted. Secondly, Australia Day in London was about as typical as you can imagine. Every pub in the wider Hammersmith area becomes a landscape of Fosters promotional merchandise, complete with drunken Australians. Here in Uganda it was also a public holiday for the 19th anniversary of President Museveni overthrowing the previos regime. We started the day near the Congolese border and drove back to Kampala (about 10 hours). On arrival we changed and went to Kampala Casino where i sang with a small jazz ensemble called "Misty". Sally one 14,000 shillings on the pokies and i won 4,000 on the roulette table. We drank a bunch of beer and when a cab driver offered to drive us home Sally said that if he could catch her then we would. She can run faster than Kampala cab drivers. A very interesting Australia day.
