The Weekend Update

Friday

Mr & Mrs Smith was a bunch of fun.

Being the third Friday of the month, I headed up to the retro night Cheese on Toast after the movie.  There were easily three times as many people as last months turn-out.  With a bunch of people I'd mentioned it to coming along, it turned out to be a really good night.  Sure, you could sit at home & listen to Mix 106 for the same playlist, but you'd miss out on meeting cute girls and jumping around & sweating your ass off with a crowd intent on jumping around & having a good time.

Saturday

Nice day; should've gone for a ride.  As it was I bummed around, played some Far Cry and set up playlists for the evening.

With T-bone's folks in town from Adelaide, The Burrow hosted a SA Great party.  Coopers flowed freely (and the hosts still scored a massive beer profit), as did the South Australian reds & whites and cheeses.  The traditional South Aussie pie floater was the final main course offering before the Bodies in Barrels (jelly babies at the bottom of a cup of red vodka jelly) and Shallow Graves (cupcakes with something buried within) were served up for dessert.

Other than some Coopers, my contribution was some South Australian music.  I found the Sturt footy club song - go the double blues - as well as the old sea shanty Bound for South Australia.  Ben Fold's Adelaide, Paul Kelly's Adelaide and the best of Cold Chisel rounded off the SA tunes before I left the laptop to run through the last couple of years worth of the Hottest 100.  The night finished up with some late night Singstar action.

Sunday

Ah the sunday morning sleep-in, does anything beat it when it's a cold, wet morning outside?  Not having to clean up after a filthy housemate would've been nice.  Food & dirty dishes all over the kitchen combined with loose tobacco and half-smoked rollies all over the carpet in both the living room and dining rooms really put a downer on my Sunday afternoon.  How all those bits of two-minute noodles got where they did is beyond me.  I'm not going to go into the state of the bathroom.  To look at the bright side, getting all the cleaning done was pretty cathartic and now all the cleaning & my ironing is done for the week.  I know it won't last though; I give it two days before I'm re-cleaning the pots after Mr half-clean-is-good-enough has used them again.  It's been six months and I'm still not used to living with another guy.

If by massive beer profit you mean about a six pack and a bit then yes we are rolling in it. Those 8 beers or so nearly offset the couple of hundred bucks spent on the night. Suckers!

...but that said thanks for the music. The Sturt song stirred my loins.

Oh, my bad. I thought there was a couple of cartons left over. It seemed like people were drinking a lot less than usual.

Glad to hear your loins enjoyed the ode to the double blues.

Jem's set list is now available.

Annabelle, Leonie and Bec even score a mention.

Damn right they should score a mention.

Even if they were laughing at me ;)

just this weekend suzy and I were doing some hard yakka sanding back and varnishing a punt, and trying to remember the words to such stirring sea shantys as 'bound for south australia'. the best we could do was the 'toorali-orrali-attity' from 'botany bay'.
