How long has it been?
[Life] Two weeks? Really?
(Continues...)
Well, basically, I've been geeking out. In no particular order:
- I've been trying out Google Talk. Not knowing anyone who uses Skype I have no basis for comparison, but Zoe tells me that over dial-up Gtalk sounds "moog-y", but when talking to Mr Zilla in the UK over broadband links there's only the slightest of delays. Talking to a mate over in O'Connor is like talking to someone in the same room; no delay and crystal clear.
BTW Zilla - on that idea you & your DC-based mate had - read this.
- Narrowly avoided having to buy a new TV (housemate busts TV, housemate fixes TV). Funds reallocated to Widescreen Digital fund.
- After seeing the story of the very strange housewarming party from a few weeks ago, Zoe restored my faith in backyard parties by inviting me to one of hers that had music, fire, a bunch of interesting people to talk to (one of them had a damn funny story about that synthetic fat Olestra and its unfortunate side effects) and a pick-the-80s-track competition at 1am. How the cops weren't called I don't understand. Outstanding tart.
- Lots of reading on Hurricane Katrina, mostly via these Metafilter posts. Got thinking that the next Democratic campaign topside will feature an ad along the lines of "Need help? Want to trust them again?" and aftermath imagery.
- A Friday night out like the Friday nights of old. Back to the pub with beers, kebabs, Soviet Ice Bombs and Car Bombs with pub randoms.
- Started and finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. How about that for an ending huh? [Spoiler warning - skip the red text] Snape revealed, Dumbledore gone & Harry heading out on his own so soon after finding some happiness with Ginny Weasley. I expect that the next book will have some very cool Indiana Jones-esque horcrux-finding & destroying sequences that will translate to the screen easily.
- Watching lots of The West Wing. Blogging gets another run. Jimmy Smits, Alan Alda; the next race is going to be gooood TV.
- AFL: The Gospel According to Sally: Crows good, Port bad. Chicken good, chicken stuffed with garlic prawns better.
- Soccer: O League comp draws to a close. I score one goal in the last game & finish fifth on the ladder. Defence goal with stomach, lungs almost rebel. Not so much falling over, but do take a ball to the face.
- Battlefield 2: TotalBF2 releases a map pack. Stringer Studios releases BF2: Nights. Not many people playing new maps because only EA-endorsed maps can play on ranked servers. Nights is the basic map pack turned to night & is very cool, even with a handful of players. Need to get a better soundcard, thinking Audigy 2 at the markets this weekend.
- From NewsRadio: Apparently ponytails are back in for girls. This is a good thing.
Coming up: Oktoberfest 2005. K-Bunny visits capital. iPod nano. AFI judging screenings. Weblog redesign. Another wedding, with added parental visit. Stonefest 2005. Jamiroquai touring. Christmas. New Years. Kombiman & Em's wedding. A & B's wedding. World Comedy Tour Part 2: Montreal, Canada.
