Graffiti Capital Campaigning
Victoria's transport minister Peter Batchelor has announced another anti-graffiti push in Melbourne. According to Batchelor, graffiti's a reason people aren't using Melbourne public transport. Victorians think different.
Some went so far as to kick off the Melbourne Graffiti Games following a pre-Commonwealth Games crackdown on tagging & street art. Banksy saw the cleanup as the writing on the wall that London could be next, while the Boing Boing take on the story notes that following the sanitisation the pieces now only exist digitally.
I think that impermanence is a big part of the appeal of street art for me; each piece could be painted or postered over as soon as you turn around, a wall could be demolished. That's why I'm always keen to snap the pieces I come across then & there.
