On Screen
Two cool titbits from the latest issue of Canberra Film Files:
Dendy Cinemas is looking for a General Manager for the new 9-screen Dendy Canberra, opening in Civic in December 2006.New cinemas opening this year = joy. If there's a premium service, it'll be even better. I'm surprised it's taken this long to get something like Gold Class here.
...
Desirable Criteria: Previous experience with premium cinema offers (e.g. La Premiere or Gold Class).
DOUBLE TAKE: LIVE COMEDY OVER SCHLOCK HORROR FILMAwesome. I'm in.
Coombs Theatre, ANU Campus, Thurs 27 & Fri 28 July, 8pm, $10 Members $12 Students $15 Other
During the late 80's and early 90's, DOUBLE TAKE'S unique blend of live theatre and cinema brought you such shows as DOUBLE TAKE MEETS THE ASTRO ZOMBIES and DOUBLE TAKE MEET HERCULES (which was turned into the 1993 Aussie feature film HERCULES RETURNS and has since developed a huge cult following). Now they're back with their brand new show DOUBLE TAKE'S HORROR HOSPITAL, a cheesy 1973 British schlock horror film.
The DOUBLE TAKE duo is Des Mangan and Gabrielle Judd and this is how their show works: Mangan and Judd, at the back of the cinema, turn down the original sound of a bad old movie and redub it into a hilarious comedy. Even though the show is tightly scripted and the lip-synching is strenuously rehearsed, having the actors in the cinema allows them to throw in gags based on that days news. How many movies do you know of that can be that topical?

... and I'll be seeing you there! I used to go to all their shows. This is the best news I've had for AGES.
