Sometimes it's hard to be a Pirate

On International Talk Like A Pirate Day, who better to guest blog than our very own Capn Randy Roger:

Talk Like A Pirate Day; An Insider's Perspective

I'm sitting in my office/cubicle/veal fattening pen that is the APS standard workspace.

I should be able to see at least 6 other people from my desk, I can't, they are all off sick.

I do not have much work to do right now.

I'm wearing a large black and gold pirate hat; it looks like it came from a pantomime play. I made it last night with cardboard, staples and glue.

I like my hat. It looks so stupid, its cool.

I have a top on that, I believe, could have originated from the wardrobe of a seventeenth century pirate.

I have surrounding me gold and silver plastic sabres, daggers and cutlasses, eye patches and a pirate style prosthetic hook. There is a pirate teddy bear siting on my filing cabinet.

I have adorned myself thus and gathered these trinkets around me for a reason. It is September 19, Talk Like A Pirate Day.

A memo was circulated yesterday to our entire group/branch advising them of the day, one other person took up the challenge and came in costume. It's a very good costume.

I sit here, alone, slightly bored, wearing my hat and waving my sword. I can type with the sword as well:

'the quivk breown fox jumps ovewr the lazy browmn dog'

but not very well.

I dig Talk Like A Pirate Day.

I lost my shit at the gym because one of the trainers scratched his eyeball and had to wear a patch.

What a day for it to happen...

kids, they don't call it *dress* like a pirate day. its a day to celebrate mangling the somerset accent, not dress in fancy silly clothes. You've lost the purity of the cause, the underlying values, the romance and drama of the unexpected, unlooked-for 'yarr!'.

I think I begin to know the pain of Star Trek: TOS fans.
