Rock On

From Radio Australia:

New Zealand's Tertiary Education Commission is defending its decision to award an 85-thousand dollar university research grant for a study of head-banging heavy metal music fans.

It's part of Dave Snell's three year doctoral thesis called "The Everyday Life of Bogans".

Dave Snell's favourite head-banging band is ACDC and over the next few years he'll be able to mix business with pleasure.

The Waikato University phd student has received a grant to research the heavy metal world from the frenzy of the mosh pit to the fashion statements of tatoos and body piercing.

The Tertiary Education Commission says the work will foster greater community understanding of this often overlooked though hard to ignore aspect of popular culture.
