New York City - Part 6 - Bryant Park

If I lived in NYC, I think I would come & hang out in Bryant Park at least once a week. It's a little oasis next to the New York Public Library that has a very cool vibe.

Beneath the rows of trees on the perimeter, people sit on almost any spare space they can find. They reading, chatting, grabbing lunch from the salad & sandwich vendors. Others sit over games of chess, checkers & backgammon, or do battle on the petanque pitch. Kids ride the merry-go-round.

Most just relax on the lawn. Some sit in folding chairs, a lucky few get tables. Many lie on the grass & sun themselves. Some lose their tops (mostly guys, some girls) but there doesn't seem to be much of a perv factor to it; it's just New Yorkers doin' their thing in what time they have.

There's park security keeping an eye out for trouble and keeping the peace. Peace here is freedom from loudspeakers, buskers and the homeless. A squad of cleaners work the park like an army of ants. Litter doesn't stand a chance against the men with the claws who treat rubbish like it's got a 5 second rule. Bins are emptied every 20 minutes.

I've been here for the last three hours or so and it's been the most relaxing afternoon of this trip. I think I'll come back tomorrow.
