All we hear is

Get your sequined numbers out because there's a new SingStar game due out in August and it looks like disco balls are mandatory. SingStar Anthems is the girly answer to SingStar Rocks. The track list has been cut down to 20 tracks and the UK version looks like this:

SingStar Anthems tracklist:
- Queen: Radio Ga Ga
- Bonnie Tyler: Total Eclipse of the Heart
- Take That feat. Lulu: Relight My Fire
- Cher: If I Could Turn Back Time
- Steps: Deeper Shade of Blue
- Dead or Alive: You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)
- Candi Station: Young Hearts Run Free
- Gloria Gaynor: I Will Survive
- Bananarama: I Heard a Rumour
- Pussycat Dolls: Don't Cha
- LeAnn Rimes: Can't Fight the Moonlight
- Donna Summer: I Feel Love
- Bucks Fizz: Making Your Mind Up
- The Weather Girls: It's Raining Men
- Ultra Nate: Free
- Scissor Sisters: Laura
- Kim Wilde: Kids in America
- Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody
- Girls Aloud: Biology
- Charlotte Church: Crazy Chick

Hopefully the Aussie version will lose some tracks - I nominate Charlotte Church and Girls Aloud for starters - for some local anthems like Khe Sahn. Farnsie is more likely. Doesn't Bucks Fizz take you back to aerobics in primary school? Climb the ladder! Climb the ladder!

The reduced track list has fueled speculation that new features are being reserved for the PS3 version of SingStar, which is set to be a launch release in November. I'm gonna call it SingStar Jukebox because there'll be an iTunes-ish online shop - SingStore - where you'll be able to download tracks (for no more than ITMS they say), and it'll be able to store tracks you've already bought & not have to swap discs over. That'll keep the party moving along nicely. Screenshots here. A video of a Brit explaining SingStar to the Yanks (they don't have any versions) & more importantly showing 'em how it looks & works is also available.

Maybe the development people will take some tips from SingStar With The Stars It Takes Two. According to today's Crikey, 1.750 million people tuned in to cringe. One thing to down a few drinks and then belt out a few songs with mates; different thing to sit on the couch sober and watch celebrities take on those songs.

If you're impatient, into DIY, or if you don't have/want a console, you could grab UltraStar and turn your PC into a SingStar clone jukebox.
